WHAT IS CARNIVAL?
There are various versions as to the origins of the word
“Carnaval”. In the Italian Milanese dialect, Carnavale means
“abstinence from eating meat”, being precisely the night
before Ash Wednesday.
In Brazil, Carnival is the greatest popular cultural
manifestation, alongside soccer. It is a dynamic mixture of
fun, celebration and theatre, involving aspects of art and
folklore. At it’s most basic, it is a street party! However,
in the majority of big cities, it is restricted to closed
areas, clubs and sambódromos.

STREET
CARNIVAL
Salvador’s Carnival is very different from the one in Rio. It's not a
parade, but a dancing party through the streets of the city. There are
3 principal routes:
1. Barra - Ondina (along the coast) with it’s famous Trio
Elétricos, Bahia’s famous moveable musical 16 wheelers with bands and
dancers atop story-high speakers;
2. Campo Grande - Castro Alves (comercial center) with it’s
famous Trio Elétricos; and,
3. Pelourinho (historical center) where trio elétricos are
prohibited; the celebration is more traditional, with Afro-colonial
costumes, banners and giant size puppets, and brass bands. The crowds
are somewhat less dense.
There are three main options for you to choose from in
participating in Carnival:
1. Camarote: Elevated bandstands where you can watch and dance
from above all the Trios passing by and see Carnival’s most popular
performers at eye level;
2. Bloco: You select the group, singer or band of your choice (among
them, Yvete Sangalo, Carlinhos Brown and Timbalada, Daniela Mercury,
Chiclete com Banana and Filhos de Ghandy) to party the night away,
following the group’s route from start to finish within a moveable
space reserved for your participation, and;
3. Pipoca: the “popcorn”, those people who choose to celebrate
in the streets, partying outside the blocos but freely following along
with the trios or blocos of choice, popping up and down like popcorn
for space to see and dance.
Schöner Reisen will take you to where the party is, be your choice the
Camarotes, the Blocos, or the Pipoca! We have what you are looking
for, and our prices can’t be beat. Contact us and discover why Schöner

what is a trio?
The trio eletrico is basically a truck well decorated and with a super sound system that walks on the courses of carnival with a band on top of it. It's a sort of walking
stage.
If you guessed "trio eletrico" means "electric trio", you guessed right. Why does it have that name? Because it was the nickname of the band of the guy who invented trio eletrico: Dodo, Osmar and Armandinho (the electric trio)
